Cherokee County Historical Museum

Learn some history of Cherokee County and the Cherokee nation at the Historical Museum in Murphy, NC. This historical museum houses over 2000 authentic artifacts from the Cherokee nation including arrowheads, tools, pottery and much more. The museum reflects the lives of the Cherokee nation in the area before they were moved to Oklahoma along the “Trail of Tears”. There is a wide variety of minerals on display. Also displayed at the museum is a large collection of over 800 dolls, some dating back to the 1800s.
The Historical Museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children.

Jamie Laval and Emolyn Liden

Jamie Laval, one of the premier Celtic violinists on the international music scene, will be performing at the Community Room of the Keith House on the John C. Campbell Folk School campus on January 21, 2011. He captures his audiences with his passionate performances of traditional music from Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, and Quebec with hints of classical refinement and ethnic music from all around the world. He will be joined by Emolyn Liden who performs dances such as Appalachian Clogging, English Waltz Clogging, French Canadian and Cape Breton Step Dancing.
Showtime is 7:30 PM. Admission is free, donations are welcome. For more information, call 828-837-2775.
The Keith House is located on the John C. Campbell Folk School campus in the U-shaped driveway off Brasstown Road, directly across from Harshaw Road in Brasstown, North Carolina.

Cooley, Kilmer, and Liden

The John C. Campbell Folk School often has musical events and concerts and on January 14, 2011, you can hear the music of Cooley, Kilmer, and Liden at the Community Room of the Keith House. This musical group offers a wide variety of folk, bluegrass, country, blues, rock, and jazz music. They share the vocals and play many instruments including guitar, bass, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and harmonica. They have been together for quite some time and have played at many local venues including Brasstown Valley Resort, Crane Creek Vineyards, and Doyles.
The show begins at 7:30 PM and admission is free however, donations are always welcome. For more information and details, call 828-837-2775.
