2011 Folk School Fall Festival

The John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina is hosting the 2011 Folk School Fall Festival on October 1 and 2, 2011 from 10 AM to 5 PM. It is sure to be a weekend of fun with musical entertainment, crafts, food, and kids’ activities.
Over 200 juried and non juried crafts people will be there with lots of handmade art for sale such as woodworks, pottery, jewelry, weaving, ironworks and so much more. Crafters will be giving demonstrations on many different techniques. Visit the Mountain Life Area to see exhibitions such as blacksmithing, cornmeal grinding, and fly tying.
Kids can enjoy wagon rides, face painting, pony rides as well as visiting the Humane Society pet adoption booth.
Bluegrass, Celtic, Folk, and Gospel music will be played on stage throughout the festival as well as dancers performing various dances.

Heritage Walk and Festival

Join in the fun at the 11th annual Heritage Walk and Festival in Murphy, North Carolina on September 3, 2011 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Learn about the wonderful history of Murphy by taking in the walking tours that will happen throughout the day. Participate in the silent auction, check out the model railroad exhibit, listen to some Bluegrass and Celtic music, enjoy some tasty food and many arts and crafts and so much more! Admission is free. What a day it is going to be!
The Heritage Walk Tours will depart from the Old L&N Depot on Railroad Street at the Hiwassee Street River Bridge. These tours are approximately 1 hour of walking through the historic sites.
10:30 AM – Pyramid and Fort Butler Site Tour. This tour ends back at the depot.
12 Noon – Harshaw Chapel and Cemetery Tour. This tour ends at the museum.
1:30 PM – Historic Town Center and Courthouse Tour. This tour also ends at the museum.
3 PM – Murphy River Walk and the Great Leech Place Tour. This tour ends at the depot.
The silent auction will begin at 10 AM at the old L&N Depot. Bids close at 2 PM and get your winnings by 4 PM. The proceeds will benefit the Heritage partners and help with the festival and other projects.
Many musical groups will be playing throughout the day for your pleasure. They will be located in two different areas. Mountain Song Stage I will be located at the depot. Mountain Song Stage II will be located at Cline’s Corner Station at Valley River Avenue and Hickory Street.

11 AM – The Mountain Rascals
12 Noon and 3 PM - David A. Brose, Sukashi Rice, David Anderson, and Austin Brose
1 PM – Mountain Jam
2 PM – Steel String Session

Stop by the caboose next to the depot to see the model railroad exhibit. You can see other exhibitors inside the depot. “As Legend has it” ghost tours will be sponsored by the Paranormal Society of Murphy. Get a free hay ride and see some antique tractors at the Antique Tractor show. There will be so many things going on throughout the day, you’ll want to start out early and plan to spend the entire day taking in all the events!
